Moisturizing cracked nails

It is necessary to moisten the nails regularly, by applying moisturizer after washing hands, bathing, or washing dishes, or after using nail polish (manicures), and it is particularly recommended to use moisturizers that contain proteins such as keratin and collagen, because it strengthens the nails and thus increases resistance to cracking, moisturizers containing insulin, mineral oils, glycerin, etc.

Eat a balanced diet

In order to keep the nails healthy and treat them from cracking, a healthy and balanced nutritional pattern rich in proteins, vitamins such as vitamin A, folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin B12 should be followed in order to increase the strength of the nails and promote their growth.

Home remedies to treat cracked nails

There are many home remedies that can be followed to keep the nails healthy and treat them from cracks that may appear on them, and these include: 
  • Coconut oil: Coconut oil can be used by heating a small amount of it, and applying it to the nails with a massage for five minutes, this helps to moisten the nails and improve the blood circulation in them, and it is recommended to use it on an average of two to three times daily.
  • Coconut oil with lemon juice: You can mix a quarter cup of coconut oil with a small amount of lemon juice in a bowl, soak the nails in the mixture for ten minutes, then wear gloves overnight, and it is recommended to repeat the process several times a week to get good results.
  • Apple cider vinegar: equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water can be mixed in a bowl, soak the nails in the mixture for several minutes, and repeat the mixture once a day for the best results.
  • Vitamin E oil capsules: Using Vitamin E oil capsules has many benefits for treating cracking on the nails, by emptying the oil from the capsule and putting it on the nails with a gentle massage for five minutes, leaving it for an entire night, and it is recommended to repeat the mixture daily for a week or Two to obtain satisfactory results.

Causes of cracked nails

There are many causes that lead to cracking of nails, most notably: 
  • Reduced level of iron and vitamin B group in the body.
  • Print and write heavily on the keyboard of a computer or smart device with touch screens.
  • Failure to moisturize hands and nails daily and regularly.
  • Use nail polish for extended periods of more than five days.
  • Use of products that cause dry nails, including nail polish remover.
